Black Student Group Picks and Chooses History

(TargetLiberty.org) – Sixty-five years after Rosa Parks made her stand against segregation on an Alabama bus, a New York University student group is the latest Black organization to decide that maybe Jim Crow wasn’t so bad after all. The group, Black Violets NYU, is demanding an all-black accommodation for its members.

To get around the obvious problem of asking for something, that by any sensible definition is blatantly racist, Black Violets is calling for a “themed engagement floor” in student accommodations. Students who want to live there would need to submit a statement to the floor management justifying why they should be a resident. However, the group’s statements make clear that it’s not looking for a place to engage with black students; but a space that’s restricted to black students.

In one of the most ludicrous justifications ever, the group is claiming that “NYU is a predominantly white institution, making it very difficult for Black students to connect or find community.” It’s hard to see how they’ll find it easier to connect or be part of the community when they segregate themselves from it – and throw away seven decades of progress in civil rights.
