(TargetLiberty.org) – A Michigan high school teacher says he’s been fired for sending a tweet stating a simple fact – Donald Trump is our president. Popular social studies teacher and baseball coach Justin Kucera sent the uncontroversial tweet on July 6. By July 10, he was hauled in front of his school district’s superintendent and human resources department and asked to give a statement. He was then told a decision about his future employment would be made soon.
I’m done being silent. @realDonaldTrump is our president ❌🧢
Don’t @ me
— Coach Kucera (@CoachKWLW) July 7, 2020
However, at the end of the meeting, Kucera was told he had a choice – resign voluntarily, or be fired. When he refused to quit, he was dismissed from his job. Kucera says he apologized for any offense caused by the tweet, but refuses to say sorry for the tweet itself as he meant it as a unifying gesture.
Local media reports that Kucera is a well-liked teacher with a reputation for never bringing politics into the classroom. Many former students and parents rallied to his defense – although some did so anonymously, for fear of reprisals. The Washington Free Beacon says other teachers in Walled Lake School District have sent anti-Trump tweets without suffering any penalties.
Kucera’s former principal, Ali Hamka, didn’t answer media requests for his side of the story.
