(TargetLiberty.org) – The District Attorney responsible for Portland, OR, has announced new rules that’ll let most of the city’s rioters avoid prosecution. Multnomah County DA, Mike Schmidt, says he has no plans to fully enforce the law against those arrested for causing chaos in the troubled and notoriously ultra-liberal city.
Portland’s city authorities have systematically interfered with the police department’s ability to control the rioting, which has now been a nightly occurrence for over 75 days. Cops are only allowed to step in when public order has already collapsed.
Schmidt, who took office on August 1, has been publicly backed by activist Sean King’s Real Justice PAC and Black Lives Matter leaders. He says his office won’t prosecute those charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, harassment or many cases of rioting. He also says his office will have a “hard look” at charges of resisting arrest or assaulting a police officer. Portland police have already condemned Schmidt’s soft approach to rioters.

According to Schmidt, his policy will promote “a safer community” and spare protesters from the consequences of being arrested. He brushed off violence as resulting from “depth of emotion” and “the chaos of a protesting environment.”
