(TargetLiberty.org) – Wednesday’s vote on the House of Representatives articles of impeachment ended with President Donald Trump’s acquittal.
The US Senate acquitted Trump of two charges: obstruction of Congress and abuse of power. The votes were almost completely partisan, with just Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) breaking ranks with Republicans.
On the abuse of power charge, Romney joined Democrats, but it wasn’t enough to convict Trump. The Senate voted 48-52, finding the president not guilty. The final vote for the obstruction charge was 47-53.
After it was over, the president said he would respond on Thursday afternoon:
I will be making a public statement tomorrow at 12:00pm from the @WhiteHouse to discuss our Country’s VICTORY on the Impeachment Hoax!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 5, 2020
Trump is now the third president to be found not guilty of impeachment charges. He will also become the first to run for reelection afterward.
One other thing is for sure: the Republican Party is standing firmly in his corner.
