(TargetLiberty.org) – Fans of the popular social media app TikTok could soon be in for a real disappointment. President Trump says he wants to ban the Chinese-produced software from the US. The app is one of around 60 Chinese apps Secretary of State Pompeo is concerned about and wants to shut down.

There’s been increasing concern about the amount of information TikTok is collecting from its users. Hackers are reverse-engineering the software and finding disturbing, and apparently deliberate security issues in the code. Some hackers say that any attempt to prevent TikTok from harvesting personal information results in the user being locked out until they re-enable its surveillance tools.
Talking to Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle, President Trump warned of the dangers of Chinese surveillance, including Huawei network equipment as well as potentially malicious apps. Secretary Pompeo later backed up the warning, saying that Americans need to be careful using any Chinese app, as they risk their data being stolen by the Communist Party.
