(TargetLiberty.org) – The Good Humor ice cream company is bravely entering the war against racism by hiring a hip-hop artist to replace the traditional, but now “problematic,” ice-cream truck jingle. For almost a century, ice cream trucks across the US have played a tune known as “Turkey In The Straw” to let kids know that frozen goodies are on the way. Over the last few years, though, there’s been growing criticism of the tune’s racist roots.
Good Humor ice cream asked Wu-Tang Clan singer RZA to create a new jingle to replace "Turkey in the Straw," a ubiquitous ice-cream truck song with racist roots — and is teaching drivers how to replace the music box that plays it.https://t.co/vXkEJ191ux

Of course, the tune doesn’t actually have racist roots. “Turkey In The Straw” itself isn’t in any way racist and it’s just one of many American songs – some of which do, undeniably, have racist lyrics – set to the tune of “The Old Rose Tree.” That’s a British folk song and dates back to at least the early 19th century. Like Turkey In The Straw, there’s no hint of racism in its lyrics.
However, Good Humor has announced a “collaboration” with RZA, singer with 90s hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, to create a new, non-racist jingle. They also plan to “help” ice cream truck drivers “understand the racist roots” of the song.
Now here’s the kicker: Good Humor doesn’t even operate any ice cream trucks, and hasn’t for 44 years. If this isn’t pointless virtue signaling, we don’t know what is.
