Weekend Wrap-Up — Feb. 17, 2020

(TargetLiberty.org) – We’re already starting off this week with more complaints from the Left.

Senate Democrats Displeased with Trump

According to Senate Democrats, President Trump isn’t doing enough to combat the fight against the deadly coronavirus outbreak. They wrote a proposal requesting more funds to be put towards thwarting the virus.

In response, Alex Azar, secretary of the Health and Human Services Department (HHSD), has reallocated $136 million from offshore programs to protect America. The Trump administration hasn’t released the total amount of money it will need to effectively combat the virus. However, officials told Congress that the administration believes it has enough money to deal with the situation and won’t be asking for additional funding at this time.

So far, over 66,000 have been infected and 1,500 have died from the coronavirus worldwide. This is still on track with the initial lethality rate projections. Only 15 cases have been reported in the US, so far, thanks to doubling down on screening procedures and quarantining those infected with the virus.

Biden Targets Sanders’ Supporters

Over the weekend, Joe Biden went on Meet the Press with MSNBC’s Chuck Todd. Among other tidbits, Biden shared his thoughts on the aggressive nature of a group of people who support Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT). Todd brought up the fact that Bernie supporters have been attacking Nevada’s Culinary union before asking Biden who he thought should be held responsible for their behavior.

Biden thinks that Bernie probably isn’t responsible for the behavior of his supporters, but that doesn’t mean he’s off the hook. In Biden’s mind, there needs to be some kind of “accountability” for their actions. If these people were Biden supporters, he would “disown them.”

This begs the question, are candidates responsible for the actions of their supporters?

Las Vegas Early Voting Lines Exceed Three Hours

Estimating the number of voters who will show up for the 2020 elections is a major question on everyone’s mind this year. Candidates like Bernie encourage as many people as possible, especially young Americans, to exercise their right to vote. However, even Bernie has stated that he’s concerned about the low number of people who have shown up to the Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire primary.

Nevada could be a different story, though.

One early voting precinct in Las Vegas saw wait times over three hours this Saturday. Whether this is due to increased voter turnout or understaffing of voting locations isn’t yet known. Optimists believe that there are simply more people interested in participating in our systems of democracy.

According to one of the volunteers running the voting stations in regards to staffing levels: “We need more.”
